What does Academi fund?
Writers on Tour
Academi’s Writers on Tour scheme helps finance visits by current writers to schools, libraries, pubs, clubs, societies, community centres, arts festivals, and other venues throughout Wales. It is Britain’s oldest and most straightforward funding scheme for literature events. Originally set up by the Welsh Arts Council around thirty years ago, Writers on Tour annually funds over 900 readings and workshops throughout Wales with attendances by about 55,000 people. Over two hundred different writers take part in these events. The Academi can fund up to 50% of the costs of appropriate literary events. We maintain a database of most Welsh and Welsh-based writers in both languages with brief biographies and contact details and this list is accessible from the Writers on Wales button on the menu to the left. However, organisers are not limited to selecting from this list. The Academi will consider applications for any writer with the appropriate credentials; most leading UK writers have worked in Wales in the past few years. The Academi can offer assistance with your choice of writers for particular events.
Details on how to apply for funding and general funding guidelines can be viewed from the menu to the left. Applications for funding can be made by post, fax (029 2049 2930) or by using the on-line booking form.
